Whenever you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular provider. On their end, 3 records are set up automatically when the domain name is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the Internet domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that manages the emails for that particular domain name. The site and the e-mail hosting are generally perceived as one thing, while they are actually two different services. Having separate records for them will enable you to have them with different companies if you wish. For example, some new service provider may have superb uptime for your site, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an e-mail - in either case, the company whose name servers are used for the Internet domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed site or your email will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting plan from our company, you are going to be able to see, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domains. Assuming that a given domain name has our Name Servers, you'll be able to change specific records by using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or emails pointed to another company if you would like to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will permit you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name the slightest bit. If you choose to use the e-mail services of a different provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do it with only a couple of mouse clicks in the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our semi-dedicated plans, will enable you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if needed, to update any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is quite easy since all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and in case you experience any issues, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with 100 % control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
